Acoustic-'cept for Jamie.
Hot DAMN this show felt good. No, really. I don't say that for every show-go read past reviews if you wanna.... *waiting patiently*
This one felt really very good. Warm, cozy, friendly...fun. The best kind of show. Might has well have been sitting in someone's living room with a ton of pillows listening to your favorite music. That kind of comfy. Nice... the sound just moved around the room and eventually knocked you in the gut.
The set up? Jamie was on (crowd view) the far left-Chris on the far right-Raven in the corner behind Chris-Paddy on the speaker over Raven. (drats! Someone took Paddy down? We were betting on which song he would 'jump' on Raven's head! I was sure it would be 'Rowdy's'!) JJ was at the show for a spell (hi dude!)-he bought the band a round o'whiskey.
*thinking* Hmm...differences from other shows lately? AHA! AJ kept standing with one hand on the microphone and the other on the railing that was in front of him. It's rough to be the one dude without constant stuff. You know-guitars, drums, a billion instruments for Raven-stuff. Sure, AJ has his fair share of music 'stuff'-but the songs where he doesn't? Heheh. Watch his hands. It's fun. The man sure can sing, regardless of there being a railing available or not.
'Shipwrecked'! Raven!! FLUTE! Flute, flute. Silver, sideways... flute. She does play everything. It was gorgeous. The vocalists threw in their very relaxed "ahhhs" in the song. Yeah, you just need to catch them performing this to fully understand. Trust me. Silly guys.
'Sun Comes Up'-seems the guitar bits are changing in this song... again. The current version sounds REALLY good. 'Margaret'. One of my favorite Sandcarver moments of 2006 (ok, so we aren't that far into the year, but this was really cool!)-Chris broke a string! I am not kidding. The bass player broke a string. The sound? A very amplified, very cool... "BWANGGGG!!". Man, that was totally rock and roll. Chris messed with Raven's keyboards, turning knobs and changing the keys-instrument karma? Hmm?
This bass string breakage brought forth a band break. Ahhh. Then a second set. Ooo. 'Molly'-pretty winds. Pretty pretty pretty. Even for an old bed song. 'Changes' sounds AWESOME acoustic. (acoustic-ish? *laughing*) 'Drowsy' brought with it an incredible dance display! Hmmm...maybe not incredible-but Soul Train was mentioned. *Get down, yo* Jamie gave in to his 'everyone wants to drum' urge-beat the heck out of a cymbal with his guitar. (is that good for the guitar!?) Rockstar. (I was doing some MEAN air drumming myself-can you blame me? Sir T makes me do it. Even without the green thingie.) There was a LOT of energy in the room. 'Convenient' was super. Written by aforementioned rockstar. This song is a headbanging, stomping beast! Driven. It builds up to this MONSTER of an ending. The guitars are slammin'! WOOT! *mini scream in living room*
'Can't'-have you heard this song live? I hope you have heard this song live. If you haven't heard this song live, get off of your computer and go to the next few SC shows. Cancel other plans. This is more important.

Ooo...here's something most SC shows don't have: a mini set. Yes, yes...there was a mini set. Two songs! Jeffrey S. Miller did another UNBELIEVABLE performance of 'The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald' with Miss Thang on bassoon. It moves the soul. It's one of those songs that sticks to your bones.
The second song? Hmm. I think I'm keeping this one under wraps. If you were there-you know what it was...
**CARRIE PERFORMED HER SET HERE** (see other review!)
SC's third set? Holy moly! The man off and left our plane of existance again for 'King's Crown'-getting used to that, in a weird sort of way. 'The Ring'! Hehehe. Someone needs to, erm...gently.. remind the singer of the lyrics. First verse, he sings smiled-almost every time. (it's "never held your hand-while you were scared-I'm just wearing my ring", for anyone wondering) The sublime sounding vocalist who can remember four billion lyrics for 'Emerald Isle' slips on the shortest song? Isn't that always the way? The song sounded fantastic-whatever lyrics, whenever. Hell, I would never be able to remember the words to all of the songs if I was ON the stage! *my favorite guitars, live on the cd ever anywhere*
'Rowdy's' is SO good. SO SO SO good. Now. I want it on a cd, now. Want. Now. Would play on repeat, would I. Now. *tapping foot* Now. It's that good. If you go to a show, and you DON'T like this song... you're dead. I swear. Dead. Zombie. It's a hopping stomping clapping HYEAHH!! shouting kind of a song. Too damned cool. The SC's did 'Last Wed Night', 'Roll Me Over', 'Miles' and 'TDew' after 'Rowdy's'. If you are familiar with the songs-OH man. This is a bitchin' line up! Dance dance dance hop hop scream for Raven come up with new clapping routine holler some more for Raven hop sing sing dance dance spin holler hold up lighter dance stomp sing sing scream ONE TWO THREEEE FOUR jump. Can you picture that?
(and that's just the crowd! It's CRAZY on stage!)
Oh-I do believe that I mentioned wearing proper undergarments in reviews past? Mmm hmm. A certain person wasn't wearing the proper protection-and just like the bass string... *BWANG* Strap breakage.
Funny funny I told you so funny.
Encore. Oh yes, there was an encore. Can you guess? Yup. AC/DC. 'Long Way'. I'll come pick you up if you'll go to a show, just on the hopes that the SC's will cover this song again. For real, you hooligans in PA and CA. I'll start driving tomorrow.
The whole night was splenderrific. Surrounded by the best people, the best music, the best everything. I still have the attack of the happy.
Yippee!
Truly, if life/work/kids/anything is getting you down-I can't see how it would be possible to not feel better after a show like this one-like any SC show, actually. Music as medicine? Sounds good to me.
